Who's in your circle?

Do you have a great idea for The Longest Day and want to get more people involved? Reach out to your work, school, sorority or fraternity, alumni association, art studio, book club, chess club, tennis club, yoga studio, gym — whatever organization you may belong to — and ask them to join you for The Longest Day! Here are some tips for approaching different types of organizations about The Longest Day.

At work:

  1. Reach out to Human Resources and ask if the company would support a “give back” or “volunteer” day on June 21 so employees can participate in The Longest Day.
  2. Ask if you can speak at the next company meeting and let people know about your plans for The Longest Day.
  3. Start a competition with other departments to see who can recruit the most team members or raise the most money.
  4. Host a lunch-and-learn or bake sale to raise awareness and funds.
  5. Ask your company to match donations made toward your campaign.

With your membership organization:

  1. Reach out to the membership director or philanthropy chair and let them know about your plans for The Longest Day. Ask if your organization would like to participate with you.
  2. Speak up at your next chapter meeting and let people know about your plans for The Longest Day.
  3. Inquire if there is an opportunity to be featured in your organization’s newsletter or blog and share your story there, asking others to join you or donate.

At the gym, art studio, yoga studio, dojo or fitness class:

  1. Request to speak with the manager or get their contact information. Ask if they would promote The Longest Day or donate a portion of the day's class or membership fees to the Alzheimer's Association.
  2. Post a pin-up poster or flier on a bulletin board and add a link to your page.
  3. Wear your Longest Day T-shirt — you'd be surprised how often people stop and ask about it!

At school, in your community or place of worship:

  1. Post a pin-up poster or flier on a bulletin board and add a link to your page.
  2. Host a bake sale or lemonade stand to spread the word and recruit supporters.
